P31 Mooring Buoy

A ‘Special Interest Marker Buoy’ has been placed near the P31 on Comino Island.

Dive Boats will no longer have to anchor on the wreck but instead tie their boat onto this buoy. The system has been designed so that a ‘slave’ is attached to the chain of the buoy.  The first boat to arrive will tie onto it and the boats that follow all have to tie onto the boat in front of them.   The chain will be attached to a 7 Ton Mooring Block, which has a limited load capacity  so common sense is a must when using  this facility.
This Marker Buoy will also serve as a Navigation Marker for Pleasure Cruises making this dive site safer for divers, whilst protecting the P31.

Mooring Points Project Around Our Islands

The PDSA is currently discussing the benefits of Mooring Points with The Malta Tourism Authority and has managed to get PADI Project AWARE involved in the project.  The aim is to acquire permits and  funds for the installation and maintenance of Mooring Points around the Maltese Islands.

The main objectives for these Buoys are:

The Protection and Preservation of our reefs/wrecks
Enforcements of MCA

These Buoys will be beneficial to the Diving Industry in the coming years.
